Packaging of food can have 2 kinds of shelf life dates.
1 THT date ( alt least shelf life ) and means in Dutch : ten minste houdbaar that means : at least sustainable until. This is on foods that do not spoil quikly. So after this date ,quality like taste and odour and colour may chance but you can eat it without any danger. The manufacturer guarantees a tasteful and safe product until that THT date.
2 TGT date ; ( to be used before )
TGT stands for ” te gebruiken tot ‘ that is ‘ to be used until ‘ this kind of dates refers to foods that only can be stored a short time, like meat,fish, sliced vegetables , cool meals and fresh juice This date is realy the last date you can stil use the product after this date, patogens like bacteria can grow. You can often not see or taste it or even smell it. But you can get sick, after this TGT DATE YOU NEED TO DISCARD THE PRODUCT.
There are also products with no date.
That are the products that do not require a shelf life date fore example fresh vegetable, potatoes and fresh food not peeled or cut.
Also wine and beverages with a alcohol content of 10 % ore more , fresh bread and pastreis eaten on the same day.
